SERVICES
Private Coaching
Individualized Approach: We'll identify your current abilities and challenges and then discover together how to move toward your goals. Your needs determine our focus during the sessions.
First Session: The first session is a little longer than a standard session. We'll talk, and I'll ask you a lot of questions about your past experience, feedback you've received, and any goals you may have. My goal will be for both of us to get a sense of whether we're a good fit for working together, and for you to have a glimpse of what our work will be. Most of all, I want you to have clarity about how I may be able to help you. The first session is billed as one hour, but it will take up to 90 minutes.
Location: Los Angeles, though because of COVID-19, I am working exclusively online.
My Rates: I charge $125 per hour-long session.
I also offer discounted packages for purchasing multiple sessions. Scholarships are also available. Email me for more details.
Duration and Frequency of Study: Most clients do either one or two sessions per week. Less than one session per week is usually not helpful. Depending on your goals, you may finish after a few sessions or continue on a regular basis.

Remote Communication with Presence
Remote Communication
with Presence Workshop:
Overview: In this introductory workshop, participants will learn tools and tactics for finding ease and presence in remote meetings. By taking fundamentals of voicework and public speaking and applying them to this new environment, I’ll help your employees find comfort when communicating in remote meetings, helping your company’s meetings run smoother and your employees develop a greater ‘in-person’ presence in remote meetings. I also offered a version of this workshop tailored to helping teachers find more presence in their lecturing and class engagement.
Some of the content we’ll cover includes:
-
What it means to be present when speaking.
-
How to develop a practice for cultivating presence.
-
In-the-moment interventions you can use to get back to presence.
-
What to focus on—and what not to focus on—when speaking.
-
How mirror neurons can help us connect to our audience.
-
Simple tools for developing greater emotional connection to your content.
"Ryan’s 'Remote Teaching with Presence' workshop was a huge hit with our faculty. Ryan’s a fantastic presenter. The activities in the workshop were engaging and productive, and Ryan modeled them beautifully in her presentation."

MLE (Multicultural London English) Accent Intensive
What: This intensive will help you differentiate between several contemporary London accents, with a focus on learning MLE (Multicultural London English).
London is a big, diverse city and there's lots of diversity in the accents, too. I'll help you differentiate between the most common contemporary accents, and then we'll focus on learning MLE for the majority of the workshop. MLE is a contemporary accent of London that you've no doubt heard in works like I May Destroy You or Black Mirror, or through performers like Daniel Kaluuya, Riz Ahmed, Kae Tempest (formerly Kate Tempest), and many more.
What we'll cover:
-
Cultural context of the contemporary London accents of MLE, RP, Estuary, and Cockney (so that when you get an audition that says "British accent," you'll know which accent fits best)
-
MLE's oral posture
-
MLE's most common pronunciation shifts
-
MLE's musicality
When: Sunday, January 24th, from 12-2:30pm PT
Cost: $30, join the live class only; $75, join the live class, plus receive a download of the class recording and my written accent breakdown.
Who it's for: This class is relevant and useful for actors of all backgrounds.
What else: The class will be held via Zoom and recorded.
Note that this is the first in a series of accent intensives I'll be leading in 2021. MLE isn't intended to be the *only* British accent you need to know, but it's a good one to have on your resume. I'll be doing other intensives in the coming months.
"Ryan is a fabulous teacher! Extremely well prepared, she has practical handouts and many video references. Her in class exercises and explanations are quite clear and her demeanor encourages great growth in her students. I highly recommend her."
-Keiko Agena (Prodigal Son, Gilmore Girls)
"I’m undeniably convinced that if you’re looking to hone your skills when it comes to accent/dialect work, Ryan O’Shea’s in-depth instruction of the Knight-Thompson technique will undoubtedly take you to the next level. Her ability to clearly and creatively articulate the practical physical aspects of this work opened up doors for me that were nothing short of profound. I have a new confidence in my ability to approach any accent/dialect, armed with a process that is approachable, actionable, and thoroughly enjoyable. If you believe that the profundity of this work lies within the process of true embodiment, then I highly suggest seeking out Ryan’s coaching. It’s become an invaluable lesson in my tool kit as an actor."
