Private Coaching

Individualized Approach: We'll identify your current abilities and challenges and then discover together how to move toward your goals. Your needs determine our focus during the sessions.

First Session: The first session is a little longer than a standard session. We'll talk, and I'll ask you a lot of questions about your past experience, feedback you've received, and any goals you may have. My goal will be for both of us to get a sense of whether we're a good fit for working together, and for you to have a glimpse of what our work will be. Most of all, I want you to have clarity about how I may be able to help you. The first session is billed as one hour, but it will take up to 90 minutes.

Location: Los Angeles (Mid Wilshire). Contact me for the specific address. I also travel to work with clients and work online.

My Rates: I offer a sliding scale to accommodate clients of different means. The regular cost is $125 per hour, and the minimum discounted rate is $90 per hour (prorated for longer sessions).

I also offer discounted packages for voice coaching and American accent coaching. Email me for more details.

Duration and Frequency of Study: Most clients do either one or two sessions per week. Less than one session per week is usually not helpful. Depending on your goals, you may finish after a few sessions or continue on a regular basis.

What's covered: This 8-week class will include an exploration of principles of Fitzmaurice Voicework, Knight-Thompson Speechwork, and other methodologies. Participants will learn techniques for developing a free range of breathing, speaking and voicing, and will deepen their connection to emotion, impulse, intention, and presence in performance.

Who it's for: This class is open to performers interested in starting or deepening a connection with their body (including emotions), breathing, and voice in performance.

Class Schedule and Location:

March 26 - May 14, 2020

Thursdays, 7-10pm

Crash Acting Studios

(West Adams/Mid-City Area)

Cost: $450

What to prepare: a monologue, poem, or song of your choosing

"My voice has never sounded richer, my acting work never more deeply truthful, and my body and spirit never more connected. Class day is truly my favorite day of the week. If you’ve ever considered trying to up your vocal game, this is the class, and Ryan is the teacher." —Leslie Y.

"Ryan is an incredible teacher...I was blown away by the unexpected worth I got learning how to connect with my body, deactivate my anxiety, and exist from a truly present place. I strongly recommend this class to anyone who wants more power in their speaking voice, but much more so to anyone who wants to learn an effective way to reduce stressful thinking and anxious behavior in their life naturally, powerfully, and simply." —Aria T.

"Ryan has a ton of knowledge about different techniques like Fitzmaurice (what her 8 wk intensive focuses on) Alexander technique, Feldenkrais method; she incorporates knowledge from various techniques in her lessons. Ryan caters to what the class is interested in learning, and points out what they need to work on the most - it's not a generic one-size-fits-all type of thing. Just about any living and breathing organism would benefit from taking her class." -Megan T.

Speech &

Accent Class

What's Covered: Using principles of Knight-Thompson Speechwork, this four week class will teach participants a step-by-step process to achieve integrated flow with any accent of any language. Following the completion of the four weeks, participants will receive two private coaching sessions with me to work on an accent of your choosing.

We'll cover Knight Thompson Speechwork's Four Pilllars of Accent work, including exploring exercises from Dudley Knight's book, Speaking with Skill. Participants will leave the class with conceptual understanding of speech and accent work (including the foundation of phonetics) as well as a practical, felt sense of how to physically DO an accent.

Who it's for: This class is open to performers or non-performers, whether you're an actor wanting to learn an accent for your "type" or you're a non-performer wanting more clarity as you speak in your day-to-day life. This class is also ideal for people whose first language isn't English and are wanting to learn an American accent.

"I’m undeniably convinced that if you’re looking to hone your skills when it comes to accent/dialect work, Ryan O’Shea’s in-depth instruction of the Knight-Thompson technique will undoubtedly take you to the next level. Her ability to clearly and creatively articulate the practical physical aspects of this work opened up doors for me that were nothing short of profound. I have a new confidence in my ability to approach any accent/dialect, armed with a process that is approachable, actionable, and thoroughly enjoyable. If you believe that the profundity of this work lies within the process of true embodiment, then I highly suggest seeking out Ryan’s coaching. It’s become an invaluable lesson in my tool kit as an actor."

-Sam K.
